Tamarisque
Tamarisque consists of Janet Gordon on piano/synth and vocals, husband Hugh on violin, viola, mandolin and vocals, daughter Jane on vocals and wind synthesiser and son Alexander on mandolin, violin, viola, guitar and vocals. Janet was a tertiary music lecturer and Hugh played for 12 years in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra until they saw the light and became itinerant musicians in 1990! After their orchestral and lecturing roles, they played in a band called “Brigalow” which supported international artists like Rita MacNeil, Foster and Allen, Daniel O’Donnell and The Irish Rovers.
”Tamarisque” was originally formed as a husband and wife duo but as their children grew and became competent musicians and singers, they joined the band and the family has achieved much success throughout SA, performing at Barossa Vintage Festivals, Gourmet Weekends, the Wooden Boat Festival, the Kapunda Celtic Festival, the Medieval Festival, on the main stage of Centennial Hall and in the Ridley Convention Centre for the Royal Adelaide Show for the last three years and at Adelaide Festival Centre Sunday Salon Concerts to mention a few.
Tamarisque has performed several times at the National Festival in Canberra, at the Cygnet and Tamar Valley Folk Festivals and at Newstead Alive festival in Victoria. In June of 2006 Alex attended and received much inspiration from David Grisman’s and Mike Marshall’s Mandolin Symposium held at Santa Cruz University, California.
Tamarisque has produced 3 CDs, “Tamarisque”, “Long Days at Lonely Hill” and “Old Carousel”. They are currently still working on their 4th CD.
Their repertoire is very wide-ranging, from Classical, to Celtic, Gypsy, Mediterranean, Bluegrass, Brazilian and popular songs. Their programme particularly features the amazing mandolin playing of Alex and the beautiful, clear voice of Jane.
